The Tutoring Center

experience the power of learning one-on-one

The Tutoring Center exists for students who struggle with learning differences or experience challenges that affect their learning and success. Tutoring is an opportunity to improve and strengthen skills, tailored to meet individual needs.

Tutoring for Elementary, Middle, and High School Students

Tutoring is an opportunity to improve and strengthen academic skills through instruction tailored to meet individual needs. We design customized programs for

  • reading, writing, and math skill development
  • test preparation
  • content support and enrichment, and
  • academic coaching to address executive functioning, study skills, organization, and time management.

Our tutors are trained in research-based pedagogy and use a diagnostic-prescriptive approach to instruction. Students build skills, acquire strategies, gain confidence, and are empowered to take charge of their learning. Tutoring is available in-person or on-line.

Coaching for College Students

In their first year of college, students experience new and ongoing academic, social, and personal challenges. Coaching is intended to help them adjust to this new reality in the short run and thrive in the long term by providing thoughtful instruction, support, and feedback. Study, organization, and reading strategies to manage increased academic demands and expectations for independent learning are emphasized along with identifying and accessing college resources for support. One-on-one work with a coach, able to leverage the power of relationship and the possibilities of the Zoom platform to deliver real-time instruction and support when it is needed, makes a difference.

Academic Skills Assessments

An assessment of the skills essential for school success reveals where students are in their learning, where gaps exist, and the steps to take to move them forward. A TNCS evaluation of skills in language, reading, writing, and math can inform instructional decisions, determine tutoring goals, provide a baseline for monitoring progress, and help with making educational plans.
