Emergency Procedures

The New Community School uses a tool called Notify to keep parents informed in case of emergency or unplanned change of schedule. Most commonly, TNCS uses Notify to announce school closings for inclement weather, but Notify would also be used to keep parents informed in case of an emergency. Families receive alerts via phone, text message, and email.

In keeping with Virginia law, TNCS holds monthly fire drills, and practices procedures for other types of emergencies on a regular basis. TNCS acts in accordance with its Crisis Management Plan, which is reviewed annually by the Crisis Management Team. The School also maintains relationships with local first responders, professionals, and experts in the field of school safety in an effort to stay up to date in the areas of safety, security, and crisis management.
