ALL-SCHOOL NEWS
Festival of Lights
Make plans to visit Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden’s Festival of Lights (runs through January 7) and don’t miss stopping by the Library. Dollhouse exhibitors share houses, rooms, and miniatures – including our very own TNCS parent, Julie Silvester (Lauren, 9th grade). Julie used the exhibit’s art theme to help promote the READ Art Show & Sale in her beautiful room box! Thank you Julie!!
Wreaths Across America
On Saturday, December 15th student volunteers will visit Arlington National Cemetery to help place wreaths on the graves of fallen soldiers. This all-volunteer program is sponsored by Wreaths Across America with the goal of honoring those who have served and sacrificed for our country. Because we only have so many seats on the bus, space is limited. Sign up soon!!! Click here for details.
Exam Period
Our exam period runs from Thursday, December 13 – Tuesday, December 18. Grades 5-7 will not have exams and will have a normal schedule (with the exception of some math courses). Grades 8-12 will have exams and a special schedule. Click here for the following details: math exam for some 6-7 grade students, modified lunch options for 5-7 grades, and details on the schedule for 8-12 graders.
Giving Day
As part of our holiday celebration on Wednesday, December 19th, our entire school will pause to take part in a service project to give back to members of our community. This year we will assemble gift packages for patients receiving chemo treatment over the holiday season. If you or your student would like to contribute to this project, monetary donations will be accepted next Friday, December 7th. We will have a booth set up in Founders Hall for donations. All proceeds will go to purchase items that bring chemo patients comfort, such as lip balm, citrus candies, tissues, and adult puzzle books.
Tech Tip of the Week
Back up your stuff! OneDrive is connected to your school-provided Office 365 account. This is a great place to store a back-up copy of your work, especially items that you have spent a lot of time and effort working to complete. Make dragging your work into your OneDrive the last step in your work process. Login to your Office 365 OneDrive HERE. If you have additional questions, Mrs. DelMonte is happy to assist!
AmazonSmile
The holidays are approaching, and we know you will be busy shopping for gifts, decorations, and more. Shop through smile.amazon.com, make The New Community School your charity, and support TNCS!
