READ Art Show & Sale

The 10th Annual READ Art Show & Sale is the Parents Association’s annual fundraiser and will take place on March 23-24, 2018. The event features 80+ local & regional artists selling their work in support of TNCS. Last year the event raised $80,000! There is a ticketed reception Friday night and then open to the public on Saturday. We need many hands to make this happen and will be asking for parent volunteers during the event and the week leading up to it. But the planning starts now! If you are interested in helping throughout the year with the planning and logistics of READ consider attending the first planning meeting: Wednesday, October 11, 4pm in Westbrook House. If you cannot attend due to the 10th grade parent gathering or other conflicts but would like to hear more, please contact April Eddleton.

Student Life

We are thrilled to announce that Dean Bragonier, the Founder of NoticeAbility, will be speaking to both our MS and US Students at Friday’s assembly. NoticeAbility is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping students with dyslexia identify their unique strengths and build their self-esteem. They incorporate the neuroscience of dyslexia, the best practices of special education, and the technology of Silicon Valley to construct learning curricula and teacher training programs for global distribution. Click here to learn more.

Friday Noon Dismissal

Reminder: Friday, October 13 will be a 12:00 dismissal. There will be no After School Study Hall provided that day.

Simulation: Experience Dyslexia

Join us on October 18th from 6-8pm as we host a simulation designed to help you experience the difficulties and frustrations that people with dyslexia and related learning differences encounter daily with reading, writing, and spelling. This simulation helps parents, teachers, and other professionals actually feel what it‘s like to have a reading or processing problem. Free and open to the public. Space is limited – RSVP to info@tncs.org

Coffee with Nancy

Mark your calendar for the next Coffee with Nancy on Thursday, October 26 at 8am in Greenwood Commons. We will welcome a representative from Side by Side (formerly ROSMY), an organization dedicated to creating supportive communities where Virginia’s LGBTQ+ youth can define themselves, belong, and flourish. There will be time to hear from Side by Side, as well as ask questions. Students will also hear from Side by Side the following day. To learn more visit sidebysideva.org.

Pizza Mondays

Mondays are pizza days for lunch at TNCS, to benefit the athletic department. Slices of cheese and pepperoni pizza from Domino’s are available. Students place their order on sheets posted on campus.
