ALL-SCHOOL NEWS
Saber Spotlight
Does your student do amazing things outside of school? We want to know about it! Saber Spotlight is a way to recognize students for the ways they excel and contribute to the community outside of school. Please let your Division Director know of your child’s successes, or email them to info@tncs.org.
Stella & Dot
Thank you to those who came and shopped with us at our on-campus Stella & Dot Show Friday — it was a huge success! The online store is still open, so you can support TNCS through October 18. Happy shopping! Online ordering: stelladot.com/ts/4hiok
Easy Ways to Give Back to TNCS!
If you are a Kroger shopper, linking your Kroger Plus Card to The New Community School can help us earn valuable support! It’s easy and free.
Just go to www.kroger.com and create or sign in to your free account. Then click on “Savings and Rewards” in the drop-down menu, then “Kroger Community Rewards” and follow the instructions. Remember, you must re-enroll with Kroger once a year.
Amazon Smile is Amazon’s way of giving back to our community. Once you link your Amazon account to TNCS, every purchase earns the school a percentage of your purchase. Every time you shop, TNCS gets a present too! To get started, visit smile.amazon.com, mouse over “Your Account”, click on “Your AmazonSmile” and follow the instructions. Then, be sure to use that link every time you shop Amazon so TNCS can benefit.
Tech Tip of the Week
Dictation is a handy tool for word processing, but did you know Word has built-in tools to read what you have typed on a page? Word online has Immersive Reader, but your downloaded copy of Word can read to you, too. The Review tab on the tool bar has an icon for Read Aloud and for more options click on the Learning Tools icon in the View tab. It will open a Learning Tools tab where you can adjust the column width, page color, text spacing, break words into syllables, and read aloud. Listening to what you have written will allow you to catch mistakes and make sure the content reflects your meaning.
UPPER SCHOOL NEWS
PSAT for Juniors
Juniors will have the opportunity to take the PSAT on Saturday, October 13th. The test will begin at 8:30am, so students should arrive on campus no later than 8:15am. To cover test administration costs, a fee of $25 will be charged to student accounts. Please email Mrs. Harley to grant permission for your student to take the test and agree for your account to be billed for the fee. Mrs. Harley will hold pre-administration meetings during Extra Help prior to the test. Students who attend will receive information on what to bring and expect during the test. If you have any questions, please contact Kim Harley.
Seniors: Send Test Scores This Weekend
If you are applying to a college with an October 15th deadline, you need to send your SAT and/or ACT scores this weekend to ensure that the scores are received in time. Log-in to your College Board account to send SAT scores. Send ACT scores from act.org.
US Clubs
Music. Weightlifting. Dodgeball. Stage Makeup. Strategy Games. Movie-Making. Biking. International Food. Does that sound like a fun list of activities? This is just a partial list of the clubs that Upper School students have proposed and will be leading this fall. This Thursday, US students signed up for their favorites. Ask your student about their club choices!
