Science Fair 

Science Fair is this Monday, November 6, at 6:30pm (6:00 for seniors). The evening’s schedule is below. Please note that the school day and fair are both Tier 3 dress.  

  • 6:00 – Senior Presentations in the Drama Room, Founders Hall, first floor 
  • 6:30 – 7:00 – Visit Projects     
    • 5th/6th Grades: Founders Hall, second floor 
    • 7th Grade: Gym 
    • 8th Grade: Greenwood Commons, Founders Hall 
    • Upper School: Gym 
  • 7:00 – Awards and Presentation in the Gym 

No After School Study Hall on Monday

There will be no After School Study Hall available for Middle or Upper School students on Monday, November 6th due to Science Fair. Please pick up your child at 3:30 so that your child can return to the event in the evening. 

Parent-Teacher Conferences

There will be no classes on Tuesday, November 7 due to Parent-Teacher Conferences. If you have not done so already, please sign up for a conference with your child’s advisor and/or teacher on the links below.

Clubs

This Friday during the Student Life block all students will have another opportunity to enjoy some club time! Be sure to ask your child how their club is going.

Spirit Wear Store Open Through November 8

TNCS Spirit Wear Store is open! Now through the end of the day November 8 you can place orders online for screen-print Saber wear and PE shirts. This will be the last time this school year to order these items.

  • PE Shirts: Please note that the first 2 shirts shown are the PE shirts (Badger 20 Basic Performance C2 Tee and C2 Basic Performance Youth Tee)  
  • Gift Orders? All orders will arrive at TNCS prior to Winter Break and will be distributed to students. If you are purchasing a gift and do not want them given to your son or daughter, please be sure to use YOUR name on the order. Orders with student names will be given to students; orders with parent names will not. We will notify those parents to pick up their order.  

Embroidered items and gifts (cups, totes, lunch bags, and more) can also be ordered anytime throughout the year from Land’s End and are delivered to you at home. Visit tncs.org/parents/spiritwear for details on our 2 Land’s End sites.

Parents Association Fall Raffle


Have you been wanting to get away to the beach, try out the winery in Barboursville, or been dreaming about the tacky lights tour? If you answered yes to any of the above, then try your odds and purchase a raffle ticket! The raffle is sponsored by the TNCS Parents Association and all funds raised will go directly back to TNCS, providing support for academics, student life, technology, and more! There are 3 different packages (full details online):

  • Virginia Beach Getaway: a 4-night stay at a townhome in Virginia Beach
  • Tacky Light Tour & Dinner: Enjoy Richmond’s Tacky Light Tour on a TNCS bus following dinner hosted by TNCS staff
  • Barboursville Double-Date: A double-date day-trip to Barboursville Vineyard including a tour and special samples.

Tickets will be sold through November 30 and winners will be announced December 1. You can purchase tickets online, at various events (Science Fair!), during some carpool lines throughout the month, or by contacting Virginia Layfield in the Development Office.

This is the Parents Association’s big fall fundraiser and we need all hands on deck to make this the most successful raffle yet! Forward the email to friends, family, and co-workers, share the details on social media, and help sell tickets at school! Physical tickets are available for checking out to sell. MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS

Field Trips

We have two field trips coming up next week! Each of these trips involves only a small number of students. Check with your child to see if he or she is involved. On Tuesday, November 14 the Sabernetics Team will be visiting the Richmond Wastewater Treatment Plant in order to get some ideas for their upcoming Robotics challenge. They will miss 7th and 8th periods but return by dismissal time. On Wednesday, November 15 Mrs. Bowling and Mrs. Petzer are taking a few of their LF students to the Virginia Holocaust Museum, in conjunction with reading Milkweed and The Diary of Anne FrankThese students will miss 7th and 8th period and return to school slightly after dismissal time.  


UPPER SCHOOL NEWS

Homecoming Dance

The Homecoming Dance is next Saturday, November 11 from 8-11pm in Greenwood CommonsTickets are $10 and can be charged to student accounts (students need to “sign up” to attend). Students may bring guests from other high schools, but guests must complete a Guest Registration Form to attend. 


ATHLETICS

Fall Saber Sports Athletic Assembly

Mark your calendar: the Fall Saber Sports Athletic Assembly is Tuesday, November 21st at 2:15 in the Gym. Parents are invited and encouraged to arrive early to get a seat before students arrive. Overflow parking available at Scottish Rite Temple. This day is full-day Tier 3 dress for all students.

Saber Basketball

TNCS Basketball Starts Monday, November 13. Like the Fall season, practices for Middle School teams are typically right after school. Upper School teams typically have an Athletic Study Hall at 3:30, then a later practice.Basketball season goes until late February.

LUNCHES

Pizza Mondays

Mondays are pizza days for lunch at TNCS, to benefit the athletic department. Slices of cheese and pepperoni pizza from Domino’s are available. Students place their order on sheets posted on campus. Pizza is $1.50/slice. Drinks are also available for $1.00. Both are billed to the student’s account. Cash is not accepted.

We are looking for parent volunteers to help serve pizza on Mondays from 11:45am – 1:15. Click here to sign up to help!

Jason’s Deli Lunch Options Tuesday – Thursday

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays students are able to purchase in advance lunches from Jason’s Deli. Orders are submitted online by noon the day before delivery. Click here for the order form, which can also be found via a link at the top of the school’s homepage.
