Parents Association Fall Raffle

Have you been wanting to get away to the beach, try out the winery in Barboursville, or been dreaming about the tacky lights tour? If you answered yes to any of the above, then try your odds and purchase a raffle ticket! The raffle is sponsored by the TNCS Parents Association and all funds raised will go directly back to TNCS, providing support for academics, student life, technology, and more! There are 3 different packages (full details online):

  • Virginia Beach Getaway: a 4-night stay at a townhome in Virginia Beach
  • Tacky Light Tour & Dinner: Enjoy Richmond’s Tacky Light Tour on a TNCS bus following dinner hosted by TNCS staff

This is the Parents Association’s big fall fundraiser and we need all hands on deck to make this the most successful raffle yet! Forward the email to friends, family, and co-workers, share the details on social media, and help sell tickets at school! Physical tickets are available for checking out to sell. MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS

Holton Elementary Fall Festival

Middle School students enjoyed helping at the Holton Elementary Fall Festival on Saturday, November 4th. They served bread and drinks, cleared tables, and painted pumpkins. They did a wonderful job serving their local community and representing TNCS.

Veteran’s Day at Westminster Canterbury

On Friday November 10th, Westminster Canterbury celebrated Veteran’s Day by inviting others to visit with veterans who live there. They had tables set up for visitors to see their memorabilia and to have the chance to hear their stories. Middle School students were invited to attend and it was voluntary for them to do so during their afternoon club time. This was our third year celebrating Veteran’s Day with residents!

8th Grade Assembly about US Life

During an assembly on Thursday, November 16, 8th grade students will hear from Upper School teachers about various aspects of Upper School life at TNCS. This assembly dovetails with a similar assembly held last month in which seniors gave 8th graders highlights and advice pertaining to Upper School life.

MS Fall Scrabble Tournament

If your middle school student has been discussing how to spell words that contain V, X, or Z, perhaps they have signed up to compete in the annual M.S. Scrabble Tournament. 20 two-person teams will hold matches during Lunch every day, beginning Monday, November 13, and culminating in the final playoff Monday, November 20. Encourage practice at home!

Field Trips

We have two field trips coming up next week! Each of these trips involves only a small number of students. Check with your child to see if they are involved. On Tuesday, November 14 the Sabernetics Team will be visiting the Richmond Wastewater Treatment Plant in order to get some ideas for their upcoming Robotics challenge. They will miss 7th and 8th periods but return by dismissal time. On Wednesday, November 15 Mrs. Bowling and Mrs. Petzer are taking a few of their LF students to the Virginia Holocaust Museum, in conjunction with reading Milkweed and The Diary of Anne FrankThese students will miss 7th and 8th period and return to school slightly after dismissal time.
