ALL-SCHOOL NEWS
Holiday Celebration
Better late than never… We will be having our Holiday Celebration (originally postponed in December due to weather-related calendar changes) on Thursday, January 24. After a morning of classes, students will be treated to a Chick-fil-A lunch*, assemble chemo care kits for cancer patients at VCU Medical Center, take part in a tacky holiday sweater contest, and be in community with one another.
*If students would rather not have Chick-fil-A lunch, they are welcome to bring a lunch or to order from Jason’s Deli.
Vex Robotics Competition
The Vex Robotics team competes Saturday, January 19 at John Tyler Community College, Midlothian campus. Good luck Sabers!
Tech Tip of the Week
8-12th graders: Feel free to update your laptop to Mojave. If you open your App Store and search for Mojave it will point you to the install package. Please remember the update can take an hour or two, so update when you can allow for this time. As always, connect your laptop to its power cord during the update.
MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
Middle School Ski Day
The TNCS Middle School will go to Massanutten Ski Resort for our annual Ski Day on Friday, February 1. This annual trip is a lot of fun and will be well supervised by TNCS faculty. We will continue to offer tubing as well. This is a great alternative to skiing/snowboarding, especially for those who don’t know how to ski. The tubing area will be well supervised by teachers. This trip is optional; however, if your child does not attend the trip, they should stay home that day. There will be no alternative activities on campus.
The permission form contains more information and must be returned to the school on or before Wednesday, January 23rd. Alternately, the form can be filled out electronically and emailed to Jason Carmichael. If you have questions, please direct them to Mr. Carmichael. Thank you!
UPPER SCHOOL NEWS
Upper School Ski Trip
Ski Day permission forms were due this past Wednesday, but we will continue to accept them as long as there is room on the buses. Please turn in the permission form as soon as possible. Alternately, the form can be filled out electronically and emailed to Jason Carmichael. If you have questions, please direct them to Mr. Carmichael.

Upcoming College Application Deadlines
Just a reminder that many colleges have deadlines approaching quickly. Seniors are encouraged to complete college applications, send SAT/ACT scores, and request official transcripts to be sent, if needed. Seniors who still need to apply to colleges, should schedule a meeting with Mrs. Harley as soon as possible. She is available during 2nd, 3rd, Lunch, 6th, 7th, Advisory, and Extra Help. Below is a list of a few of the upcoming deadlines:
- February 1st – ODU, Radford, Mary Washington, Christopher Newport
- March 1st – Randolph-Macon
Seniors should check the website for a specific college’s application deadline and allow time to submit the application and required supporting documentation.
Students who have been accepted to a college that they plan on attending should contact the college and accept the offer. Students should decline offers from colleges that they are not planning to attend.
College Application Status Survey
Several seniors still need to complete this survey of their college application status. Completion of this survey will serve as a request for Mrs. Harley to send mid-year transcripts to all the colleges to which students have applied. This form has also been emailed to both seniors and parents who are encouraged to complete it together as soon as possible.
Scholarship Database
Scholarship Sharing is site that has a lot of resources. Seniors are encouraged to check it out! There is a lot of information on scholarships for undergraduate students, technical/vocational students, specific majors, Virginia schools, and many other specific areas that may be applicable.
