READ Art Show & Sale: Volunteers Needed

The 11th annual READ Art Show & Sale is March 22-23! READ showcases work by regional artists and was voted Best Art Event and Best Annual Charity Event in Virginia Living Magazine’s Best of Virginia 2018. It takes all week to set up the event, which starts Friday, March 22 with a ticketed opening reception, and is open free on Saturday, March 23. This is the Parents Association’s big fundraiser and they rely on parents to help make it happen. Click here to view a Sign Up Genius for the week of READ to see how you can help! There some items to be donated, and plenty of volunteer jobs throughout the week. Thank you in advance for your help with this event! Be on the lookout for your invitation in the mail soon! Contact April Eddleton with questions.

The TNCS Summer Programs brochure is live and registration is open! Classes are held from June 17 – July 12. Click here to see this year’s brochure. Register early and save!

Tech Tip of the Week

Middle school parents, do you get frustrated because your child often isn’t on the iPad App that they should be using to complete their work? Guided Access is a feature that enables you to lock the iPad on the app you select. Click here for a quick video that explains how to activate this feature.

Please remember teachers sometimes use Guided Access, too. Let’s agree to remember the last step of using Guided Access is turning it off. This will allow for both parents and teachers to use this feature. To turn off Guided Access:

  1. Triple click the home button
  2. Put in your code
  3. Go back to Settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access >
  4. Toggle off the Guided Access button (from green back to grey).

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS

Innovation Week

During the week of March 4th, Middle School students will participate in an exciting opportunity known as Innovation Week. Be on the lookout for more specific details, but here are a few quick key points for your future planning:

  • During Innovation week (March 5-8), we will have a typical school day. Students should arrive by 7:55am and will be dismissed at 3:30pm. There will be no After School Study Hall this week. If your student is not participating in a Spring sport, please plan to pick up your child at 3:30pm.
  • Weekly lunch opportunities will remain the same. Please make sure that your student signs up for Pizza Monday, Jason’s Deli on Tuesday-Thursday, and Chick-fil-A on Friday. Students can also pack lunches.
  • Your child should still bring a backpack full of their educational technology resources.
  • If you should have any questions or concerns, please contact Julie Oliver at joliver@tncs.org.

5th and 6th Grade Innovation Week

During the week of March 4th, 5th and 6th graders will be participating in Innovation Week. We are really excited to present them with this experience. For one week, we will put our regular schedule aside to explore themes of collaborative and cross-curricular problem solving, creativity, and community. In order to complete the first phase of this project, we need help from 5th and 6th grade parents! Would you be willing to share your trash with us? The students will build machines from recycled materials, so we will need a TON! Click here for more information and a list of helpful items.
