The Parents Association meeting that was cancelled due to weather has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 14 at 8am in Greenwood Commons. All parents are invited to attend.
Meet Our New Director of Middle School
Congratulations are due to Scott Kay, current TNCS LF teacher. Mr. Kay will be the Director of Middle School starting this summer. We are excited to welcome him to this role and the TNCS Administration. Scott has a background with strong middle school experience as a teacher, coach, and leader. He graduated from VCU with a BA in History Education, and received a postgraduate certificate from ODU in special education, and a master’s degree in education from Averett University. Scott spent his 12 years prior to TNCS teaching in Hanover County as a special education teacher as well as coaching boys and girls tennis.
Upcoming Meetings for Europe Trip Summer 2018!
You will soon receive forms that need to be completed and some notarized. We also will have a representative from World Strides skype with us in either March or April to answer any questions or address concerns.
We have 3 important meetings planned to go over essential information about the trip, get to know each other better, and learn more about the countries we will be visiting. We will enjoy some fun activities related to our travel and share food that relates to each country. The meetings will be on Sunday evenings in Greenwood Commons from 7-8pm. Parents and students are invited to attend.
- February 11: Italy; please bring a copy of your passport.
- March 18: France
- April 22: Spain
Mark your calendars and plan to be there for information, food and fun! Questions? Contact Mrs. Noble or Ms. Latta.
MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
Reading Games and the Richmond Flying Squirrels
The Richmond Flying Squirrels Baseball team wants to help encourage Middle School students to read for our Learning Ally Great Reading Games and Battle of the Books! The Squirrels will give a free baseball ticket to their April 18 game (with fireworks!) to every student who reads 8 books between February 1 and March 30. Students can earn a free ticket by having a parent sign off that they read each of the 8 books on a special Squirrels bookmark. We will give the bookmarks out next week. When a student has read 8 books, they will turn the bookmark in to Mrs. Petzer to receive a free baseball ticket. Keep Reading, Sabers!

Volunteer Opportunity
On Saturday, February 17th, from 9:45am-1pm, Middle School students will be volunteering to help Houlagan’s Rest Dog Shelter at Stony Point Fashion Park. Students will have the opportunity to participate in their “Hike A Houlagan” program by walking dogs around the mall. This program builds confidence for dogs who need to reconnect with people and will allow our students to have the opportunity to bond with the needy animals. It is not an obedience class, it is simply leash-walking a rescue dog. Visit their website to learn more: houlagansrest.com.
Click here for the permission slip and Houlagan’s Rest required forms. In order to participate, students should turn in all of these forms to Mrs. Clelland or Mrs. Harley. All forms must be turned in by February 15. There is limited space on the bus, so students also have the option to meet our group at Stony Point Fashion Park. Contact Mrs. Harley with any questions.

- Teach them important life skills
This year our seniors are shadowing professionals in a diverse range of fields including: architecture and design, hair styling, elementary education, occupational therapy, sports communications, and others.
