ALL-SCHOOL NEWS

2nd Annual Battle of the Books

Middle and Upper School students chose their teams this week to compete in the 2nd Annual Battle of the Books competition in second semester. Click the links to see what books they will be reading and a brief reader review and description of each book: Middle School list  Upper School list. In January, each Middle School team will partner with an Upper School team to compete together in answering questions about their books. Teams already have begun planning their strategies and reading books. Audio versions of all the books are available on the Learning Ally app. They may also choose to read the books independently. Parents, if you would like to get involved with your child’s reading, this is a great opportunity to read along with your child. Perhaps you can enjoy an audible book together during a car ride to relatives over the holiday break?

Exam Period

Our exam period runs from Thursday, December 13 – Tuesday, December 18. Students taking exams received a paper copy of their individual exam schedules on Friday. Schedules were also emailed to parents and to students’ TNCS email addresses on Thursday. Grades 5-7 will not have exams and will have a normal schedule (with the exception of some math courses). Grades 8-12 will have exams and a special schedule. Click here for the following details: math exam for some 6-7 grade students, modified lunch options for 5-7 grades, and details on the schedule for 8-12 graders.

Jumprope vs. Portals

We hope that parents are getting used to navigating Jumprope, our gradebook application, and finding it to be a useful resource. Jumprope is the place to measure how your child is doing in school. Portals, however, remains your resource to see what your student is doing in school. You can view class summaries, which let you know what is happening in each class that week, as well as view homework/assignments, class announcements, and relevant links and files. We hope you find this to be a valuable resource and conversation starter with your child. Click here for a video tutorial on navigating to the class summaries. There is a link to the login pages for both Jumprope and Portals at the top of the school’s website.

Wreaths Across America

On Saturday, December 15th student volunteers will visit Arlington National Cemetery to help place wreaths on the graves of fallen soldiers. This all-volunteer program is sponsored by Wreaths Across America with the goal of honoring those who have served and sacrificed for our country. Because we only have so many seats on the bus, space is limited. Sign up soon!!! Click here for details.
