ALL-SCHOOL NEWS

Exams

The first semester is drawing to a close. Students in grades 8-12 will be reviewing for exams for a week, beginning on Thursday, December 7th. Exam Week starts Thursday, December 14th and continues through Tuesday, December 19th. Saturday, December 16th and Wednesday, December 20th are make-up days for exams missed due to illness. Students and their parents will receive individual exam schedules next week. In general, exams for grades 8 and 9 will be in the morning (start time 9am) and exams for grades 10-12 will be in the afternoon (start time 12:30), except that all Tuesday exams will be in the morning. Check the middle and upper school sections for more detailed information.

Students in grades 5, 6, and 7 do not have exams during Exam Week. Instead, they will work on special cross-disciplinary projects during the mornings. Their school hours will be 8am to noon during Exam Week. There are a few 6th and 7th grade students who do take math exams, but they will take them during the school day on December 13th.

Trip to Arlington

On Saturday December 16, US and MS student volunteers will go to The National Cemetery in Arlington to help lay wreaths on the graves of fallen soldiers. This is part of the Wreaths Across America program and is a great experience. We will leave very early in the morning (5:45am)Click here for trip details and a permission slip. Sign up soon – bus space is limited!

OSx Updates

8th – 12th grade families, just a friendly reminder that if you are updating your Operating System (OSx) on your laptop, the process can take several hours. It is best to upgrade the OSx during a time when you do not need your laptop for a while. Once the update has started, please do not ‘force quit’ your computer (by holding down the power button until the laptop restarts). This may result in getting the dreaded flashing Question Mark Folder (see image below) or even worse, damage to the hard drive. The flashing question mark folder indicates that the laptop cannot find the startup drive. If this happens to you, Mrs. DelMonte can assist in fixing this problem.

Potential OSx Updates:

  • From El Capitan to macOS Sierra
  • From El Capitan to macOS High Sierra
  • From macOS Sierra to macOS High Sierra

Giving Day

Thank you to all who participated in Giving Day on Friday, December 1st! We raised over $400! All of the proceeds will go to purchase items for the VCU Chemo Care Kits. The Upper School students will put these kits together as part of their holiday celebration on December 13th. Thank you for helping us bring some cheer to those who are going through chemo treatment this holiday season.

Side by Side Assembly

A representative from Side by Side will hold three separate, grade appropriate presentations for our 5th and 6th, 7th and 8th, and Upper School students on Friday, December 8th.
