ALL-SCHOOL NEWS

After School Study Hall

Please note that After School Study Hall takes place every day, Monday through Friday. Both Middle and Upper School meet in Founders Hall.

Carpool

Many thanks to parents and students for a smooth first week of carpool! As our student body grows, carpool times are impacted – thank you for your patience. As an important safety measure, please refrain from cell phone use in the carpool line. To keep our students safe, all students should be dropped off and picked up in the carpool line vs. alternate meeting spots.

UPPER SCHOOL NEWS

College & Career Counseling

College representatives will be visiting TNCS in the next few weeks. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors are encouraged to attend the information sessions held during Extra Help. A schedule of visits can be found on our website.

SAT for Seniors

The next SAT testing dates are October 5th and 6th. Students should register by September 6th using their College Board accounts. The SAT registration fee is $49.50. Students are welcome to see Mrs. Harley in Morris Hall, Room 103 for registration help but they will need to bring a credit card for payment. SAT dates are:

  • October 5-6 – register by September 6
  • November 2-3 – register by October 3
  • December 7-8 – register by November 8

 Visit: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/register/dates-deadlines

Students who are taking the SAT on October 5 and 6 should be on campus both days no later than 8:15am. Testing will begin soon after in Room 103 of Morris Hall. Students should bring the following with them on both days of the test:  computer CHARGER, headphones, approved calculator, #2 pencils, snacks, and water. Students will also need to bring the admission ticket that contains the registration number needed for the test.

PSAT/NMSQT for Juniors

On Saturday, October 19, we will be administering the PSAT/NMSQT to TNCS juniors. The PSAT/NMSQT is a practice-version of the SAT, the College Board’s admissions test. Testing will begin at 8:30am. When given under timed conditions, the test takes three hours. Our students will have additional time if needed, so they may be at school for four or more hours.

While the PSAT/NMSQT is not required, we have found that it is useful both for diagnostic purposes and to help students become accustomed to the types of tests they will encounter as they explore the college admissions experience. To cover the cost of test administration, the school will charge a $25 fee.

Please email Mrs. Harley to indicate whether your student will or will not be taking the PSAT/NMSQT on October 19, so we can get an accurate headcount of test takers. This email will also grant permission for your account to be billed for the fee.

Junior Class College Trip

The Junior Class College Trip will be in November. Juniors will be departing TNCS after school on Monday, November 11 and returning the evening of November 13. Plans are being finalized and will be communicated soon.

Science Field Trip

The Chemistry and Environmental Science classes will be going to the Science Museum of Virginia on Tuesday, September 3 to visit the Pompeii exhibit. This is the last day of the traveling exhibit before it leaves for its next stop. We are excited that we could take advantage of this opportunity to see this remarkable civilization that pushed the envelope of innovation.
